For years, the accompanying ‘clip’ of a picture has been a favorite of mine. It mimics art from ancient, matriarchal times. Such a powerful message is held in these characters that national flags (Turkey, for example), and even baked goods (the crescent—yes, that’s the yummy truth) have been created from the design (unfortunately sans the goddess that is so important to the overall effect). Based on the moon behind her and the deer or gazelle poised in the forefront, we know this is a depiction of Artemis, the Greek Moon Goddess and spirit keeper of animals. However, I sense the deer represents something more than just the totality of earth’s animals. Tribal people know the deer is the best shape-shifter in nature. For movement in and out of the earthly plane, many spirits choose to take the form of deer because it makes for a swift and easy transition. And I believe the deer in the foreground gives us a giant hint that the entire depiction is about transformation and therefore, carries a relevant message about the times in which we live.

Recently I paged through a spiritual book in which the author’s channeled Guides claimed that the moon is dead, as in devoid of spirit. So, okay, no sound and light are given off by the moon, but in cultures where feminine divinity is still very much alive, they recognize the moon is also very much alive. A repository of womanly spirit, she’s awash with soft and gentle waves of devic vibration that emanate below the threshold of our senses and the most refined scientific equipment. When the moon reflects no sunlight, her own spirit is purely creative (creator). At that time, her spirit functions in a manner similar to a ‘black hole’ or what tribal people might consider a ‘womb.’ In the dark phase, moon as creative force is intimately involved in the birth—and rebirth—of every life in our cosmic neighborhood. As such, the moon serves as Grand(est) Mother to the two youthful powers who animate all the rest of us: Brother Sky and Sister Earth.

According to the Ancient Americans, we will soon face both an ending to what we know as reality and a new beginning, or fresh state of consciousness. The Maya and other Tribes say the Earth, and our entire cosmos, is due for a grand flowering that will move our focus from the dense material realm, to life in dream-like astral dimensions. And the momentous changes aren’t going to be faced by humans alone, but by the whole planet together. I find it helpful to keep in mind that our fate is a collective one.
