Holy Stones with Holes

In cultures with deep roots to the past, from many lands around the globe, small rocks with holes in the middle are considered the most sublime of all amulets. An amulet is worn on the body, not as jewelry or decoration, but because it carries a spiritual force that boosts or supports the soul of the wearer. And the chemical or mineral composition of the stone does not matter. As an amulet, the little holey rock is treated with utmost care. So it is most often wrapped in red cloth, carried in a medicine pouch and kept together with other sanctified objects that are part and parcel to working with spiritual power. The bearer recognizes that the spirits enlivening the stone are to be revered at all times. Unfortunately if modern spiritual practitioners come across such a treasure, they seldom know what they hold in a holy-holey rock, and how to keep its ‘charm’ so the spiritual essence remains intact.

The glyphs of the Ancient Americans are prolific, and all over earth human figures are carved not only on temple walls but into rock flats, bluffs, mountain and hillsides. Anthropologists and archeologists have found that in North America alone, there are more than 65,000 sacred sites where the ancestors of antiquity left us long-standing messages. To modern people, the stone art seems little more than curious scratches that can be dismissed because nobody is around to tell us what the etched art means. This attitude demonstrates what Native Americans recognize: westerners place little value on anything that cannot be meaningfully interpreted. If the rock pictures hold no intellectual merit, then there’s nothing really to gain from them and they are of no consequence to us. This notion leads our so-called ‘progressive’ society down a pathway of ignorance.
