A month or so ago I asked participants in the European Circles to assist with astral preparations for our autumn 2011 gatherings. Many students have already taken seminars that introduce the prayers we give to do so. Other people have not, and are now asking questions. Yes, once again students are asking questions—but, never mind. I find writing about the prayers is just one more way to express gratitude towards the Guides and Guardians invoked each time we offer the prayers. So, although I would rarely say it to questioners: thank you for speaking up.

Many people from various Circles now use the Prayers for Psychic Healing & Release from the Protocol provided by Nancy Crossthwaite, a teacher and healer in Austin. Using the prayers, students are serving family, friends and Circle members around the world. The Protocol itself is very old and maintains a rather archaic form of English. Additionally, some specific terms brought into play may be well understood among the professionals trained in its use, but not so for those of us who are new to the tool.

Prayers are one of the best ways to endear ourselves to spirits. This is often overlooked in the modern world. Prayers can be thought of as well-worded thoughts that carry a lot of spiritual weight. The actual words gain power when repeated, and the repetition is ritualized, given at the same time each day, week or month. Such prayers are readily attended by the spirits invoked.

Because we are steeped in the solid physical realm, Westerners do not recognize that each stripe of a rainbow represents one of many astral spheres. And the two arches of a double rainbow offer us the faint light of even more otherworldly dimensions. Of course the rainbow itself is often chosen to represent the astral aspects of ourselves we are familiar with: the chakra or energy centers, and the aura with its meridians. And like everything else, the aura and meridians with their hubs of action will also transform during the times ahead.

Astral simply means light; at the root: starry light. So when I talk about the astral—which I often do—I refer to the layers of light around everything earthly. It is light that most people in our culture have been schooled away from perceiving. If something is astral, it takes a form in the light. Across all human cultures we find mention of the same astral beings: fairies, elves, giants and dragons to name a few.
